D. Pyle Said: Maps Obsolete, #1 Voice Response is "I did not intend that" Sep. 8th 2010

While I was impressed with some another aspects of the GPS, I was astonied to discover my new Magellan Maestro 4700 purchased July 2010 did not have the current Spring 2010 map. A such older version was installed. Also, navigator customer hold refuses to update the map to the edition underway as of the acquire date, unless I pay another 80 for a Spring 2010 map - issued months before my purchase date. This is more than half the GPS' original purchase price. I wait a newborn GPS should be oversubscribed with current, not obsolete, maps included in the purchase price. I'm rattling unhappy with my experience with Magellan Customer Service on this issue. Based on this, I would give 1 grapheme circumscribed by Amazon as "I hate it" , if it were not for aspects of the GPS that do impact substantially - it's pretty quick finding move routes or adjusting its directions when I disagree with the GPS' congratulations of quickest route. So, I give 2 stars "don't like it" .

Some positives: helpful displays of your pick of time remaining to destination, distance to destination, elevation, MPH. I discovered a pair beatific restaurants I never knew about by searching nearby "Italian" or "Thai" etc. I did not encounter the 3-D buildings to be helpful other than as eye-candy. 3-D actually obscured streets somewhat and slowed overall sensitiveness - but you crapper opt not to display 3-D.

Not so positive: I specifically wanted voice commands, hoping it would allow hands-free use of the features patch I kept my eyes on the road. Unfortunately, the voice commands are not intuitive, and order you to garner from a numbered itemize of destinations. For example, if the options are "1 Main Street, 2 King Street or 3 River Street" you hit to pick a number. It won't see you if you say "Main Street." You hit to countenance at the itemize not the road , and say "Number 1". Voice acceptance ofttimes misunderstands me. The most common state I got from the GPS was "I didn't get that." I speak Standard American English, and wonder how much more it would struggle with any another accent. This is no Dragon Naturally Speaking. I hope a forthcoming edition would be state-of-the-art. If implemented better, vocalise command could be a priceless country feature for ingest patch driving.

Most negative: Obsolete maps at instance of purchase is a Brobdingnagian disappointment, as is Magellan's lack of domain to provide the current maps as of the acquire date without charging more than half the purchase toll as an additional fee. Magellan's guarantee regarding current maps is deceptive. While the incase states it comes "pre-loaded" with maps, nowhere does it state its maps module be obsolete, or that you must update to a previously free version within 30 life or, if you woman that deadline, clear a rattling broad fee for a map already current at the time of purchase. To me, this is a deceptive parsing of its warranty language, and seems intended to gouge customers for underway map code - which digit would adopt would already be included in the acquire price.

The indorse phraseology institute online, not in the incase states that Magellan module update the "device's preloaded map liberated of calculate if Magellan releases or makes available a transpose update within 30 days from the date of client purchase." In plain language, this seems to reassure that new maps free within 30 days AFTER acquire are warranted, so you don't woman discover if you acquire meet before an update. However beware if, same me, you acquire AFTER an update, as I did in July - following a Spring 2010 update. Magellan client assist insists I pay extra for the update already free the previous Spring!

Linda D Crnkovic Said: No response from Magellan Sep. 6th 2010

After using a borrowed blackamoor blackamoor and Garmin we definite to acquire the Magellan Maestro 4700 as our prototypal GPS. On our prototypal activate out with it the touch screen was not responsive and when I grazed it the fourth instance it unsmooth under the screen. I must add that I am a very certain person and know beyond a doubt that I didn't 'touch' it likewise heavy. I telephoned navigator technical hold and explained what happened to them and was told the difficulty was not awninged low warrenty. I then wrote a letter to Magellan explaining in flooded detail the experience and suggesting the screen touchable may hit been faulty. I never conventional a response from them. This was our first GPS purchase and we were looking nervy to having it on our travels, but that is not to be. We will not acquire added navigator even though it did hit the features we were shopping for.

Charlene A. Mccloskey Said: Great GPS! Aug. 31st 2010

I purchased this for my husband for his birthday. He loves it. He travels all over Texas and 98% of the time it takes him exactly where he needs to go. So now I've decided to acquire the aforementioned one for my 18 assemblage old daughter and myself.

BE GOOD, DO GOOD Said: A Bad Experience Aug. 30th 2010

First the component arrived after I mitt for my trip for which I made the purchase. Thumbs downbound to Amazon. On returning from my vacation, I intellection of keeping it since my older one needed a replacement. Turned it on and institute that the reciprocation alerts needs a seperate purchase of 40/- more. After charging it the concealment started unsteady continously. Had sufficiency with this POS. Returned it to Amazon. I surmisal Magellan is no individual what it utilised to be.

Charles V. Stewart Said: There are meliorate options Aug. 30th 2010

I would not buy this creation again. It takes longer to "load" than some GPS I hit owned. Sometimes we have had to wait more than fivesome minutes.
